Episode 20: Robinson Crusoe (Recorded Live at Myriad Games!)

It’s the big 2-0 and the Board Gamers Anonymous team is together in full at Myriad Games for a special on-location recording with good friend and BGA member, Mike. We’ll be talking about a number of new kickstarter projects hitting the net as well as some recent plays of Suburbia, Inc., Talisman, Back to the Future The Card Game, and Tales of the Arabian Nights. Finally, we’ll look at our big feature review for this week with Robinson Crusoe, a game we finally managed to track down with the help of a good friend.

At the Table

With a full team of five at the table this week, we discuss four different games that hit the table for us in the last two weeks. The first of these is Back to the Future the Card Game, a reimplementation of Chrononauts that has a number of issues, not the least of which is some creepiness in the potential game winning solutions. Next up is Tales of the Arabian Nights, a strictly brutal adventure game that can leave everyone at the table depressed (and entertained!).

We also get the new Suburbia expansion to the table with Suburbia Inc. The newest addition adds a huge injection of decision making options to the game and really builds on one of the best games of the last year. Finally, we sit down and play through Talisman as a group – one of Kim’s favorites and a classic of the genre.

Feature Review: Robinson Crusoe

Robinson Crusoe has been on our “to play” list for the better part of 6 months and it’s been nearly impossible to find. So when Brian offered us his copy, we couldn’t help but take him up on it. Listen as we play through one of the hottest co-ops of the last year and share what we think of its very unique storytelling elements. Does it deserve all the eager searching by gamers or is it another partial delivery?
