Episode 25 – Pax East 2014 & Splendor

We’re back from Pax East and that means LOTS of games to discuss, gaming discussions and a lot more. Plus we have a special guest with us this week as Rob sits down with Anthony and Chris to talk about board games and all things new and recent from the world of board gaming. Learn what we loved most and what games we’re excited to play in the coming weeks after our very first BGA-centric convention.

Pax East Review

It was a wonderful weekend as Anthony and Chris headed to Boston with Dan and Kim to check out one of the biggest all purpose gaming conventions on the East Coast. During the three day convention, they sat down for a handful of tournaments including Ticket to Ride and Munchkin, checked out a bunch of interesting new Kickstarter projects in the works, and met with the guys from Plaid Hat Games and Game Salute to talk new games. Listen as we discuss the show and what we were most excited about.

Acquisitions At the Table

While we played a fair number of games at Pax East, the majority of our time was spent checking out new games we wanted to pick up and other games we were eager to sit down and play. Anthony picked up Myth and promptly discovered what is quite possibly the most confusing rule book of 2014. Chris talks about Attack Wing Wave 4 following our take home of some new freebies from a panel we attended, and Anthony pines for Dice Masters after landing a handful of free boosters courtesy of BGG.

As for games played, Rob talks about his new favorite of the year, Splendor. With chunky, satisfying poker chip components and a clever, quick to learn game mechanism, this is an interesting new game that promises to be a popular hit at the table for the coming year.
