Anthony, Chris, Daniel, and Drew are looking at a slew of games this week, including one that Anthony has been eager to pick up for what feels like years (wait, it HAS been years). This week we get in our first plays of Among the Stars, along with a reprint that came out of nowhere and capture our attention in Vikings, and the newest expansion for Blizzard’s mega-successful online CCG – Hearthstone. Listen and learn which games you’ll be playing in the weeks to come.
At the Table
We pulled three games together this week that could not be more different from each other. To start, we’ll take a look at Hearthstone: Naxxramas, discussing the effects of the new cards, the different wings of the dungeon, and the rollout style that Blizzard has used for the new content. We’re also talking about Vikings – the reprint of popular tile placement game from Z-Man Games. Finally we’ll look at Last Chance in our Classic Corner – a game that every true gamer should get to the table at least one. Learn which games are must plays and which are dodge able in this week’s At the Table segment.
Feature Review: Among the Stars
Among the Stars has been around for some time now, but just now is making it to US shores officially, so Anthony was eager to pick it up and play. This is an interesting game that blends the drafting mechanics of 7 Wonders with the tile laying components of games like Carcassonne to create an engaging tableau builder that works on so many levels. There are some issues though so listen to find out who loved it and who was only okay with this one.
Question of the Week: Tolkien Week
Finally, Drew asks the group about Tolkien themed games and what should and should not be on the docket – there are a lot of brilliant games out there in this universe. Which will Drew (noted Lord of the Rings game hater) choose? Listen and find out.
